Q: A person started working for a convenience store 9.00 am to 9.00 pm seven days a week. He was paid $50 for three weeks. Thereafter he was paid $100 for 91 hours work (8.00 am to 9.00 pm daily). The worker was illegal in United States and was under paid under this threat. That worker was not paid for two years. Lastly those running the store went out of business. The business was in the name of owner of property being run by some others. Owner used to receive $2000 per month as rent. There was no payrole. No record. Tax returns were being filed in the name of Landlord as owner of business.
A: That's a no-win situation, in any way you look at it. If you report it, the employee will get reprimanded for being illegal, and the owner or manager of the store will get charged for fraud, for under paying it's employees, hiring illegal workers, and over working their employees. If you are looking in the best interest of the employee, i say you help him/her find another job. If you are just trying to do the right thing, just report the store to BBB.com and keep the employees name and info annonymous.
