Q: We just moved here from the Northeastern part of the state (NH border) and we cannot believe how much more expensive groceries seem to be here. We shopped at Stop& Shop in our old town, and the S&S here is way more expensive. The same goes for Shaws and Worcester County's answer to Market Basket, Price Chopper. We were paying $3.29 a gallon for milk back home, and friends there say prices haven't changed much. However, milk is usually $4.89 a gallon here. I even saw it at $5.09 one day. I almost had a heart attack. The same goes for ice cream, creamers, and things like that. $4.99 for Friendly's ice cream vs. $2.99 in our old town? There has to be some reason. All other goods and services (e.g. gas, dinning out) seem to be the same. Does anyone know what the story is?
A: wow I didn't know there was that much of a difference..however funny you say Market Basket because that is where I usually shop still...I go to the Leominster one which is 20 minutes tops from Greendale mall...it's worth it..however lately I have seen their prices slowly go up from the 1950s prices to about 10 years ago!! for real!!...everytime I go to Shaw's I have a stroke too..I get my 1% milk at Honey Farms and I also belong to Sams Club where I get that stuff cheaper...the Friendly's Ice Cream you simply have to check the flyers for the $1.88 or $2.50 specials!! it is horrible though!...
