Q: hmm I live in texas of course.in sugarland, fort bend county, schools are closed here in fortbend.what do you think will happen here.I mean my mom is making a big deal about it but I'm not.way do u think.plz answer
A: Sugarland will be affected by high winds and heavy rain. if where you're at has flooded before it will most likely flood during Ike. Hurricanes are erratic and often what makes hurricanes worse are secondary factors so its hard to say whether Sugarland is "safe". However, Sugarland is not under mandatory evacuation. If you are staying-- stock up, fill the tub, & stay home! Workaholics, u can do it--play a board game; it could be fun. If you're not evacuating avoid Hwy 6 , 59 & 90A as folks evacuating from Galveston & Brazoria Counties will be using those routes--let the blesseds through; they'll be on the road for hours. In the case that you need or will need special assistance to evacuate contact the Sugar Land Office of Emergency Management at (281) 275-2860 or (281) 275-2864 to participate in the Special Needs Registration process. Info from Houston Chronicle on Sugarland http://blogs.chron.com/sugarland/ Info from city of Sugarland on how to prep if you're staying http://www.sugarlandtx.gov/fire/emergenc... Just so u know where i'm coming from: i live in Brooklyn far from the storm. but my dad lives in Sugarland; he has a disability so to stay on the safe side, he evacuated to Dallas yesterday (over 8 hours on the road). I've also got other folks i love in SL who are gonna ride it out.
