Q: I wanted to know from the people who didn't evacuate why the chose to stay. My heart goes out to everyone who will be effected by the Hurricane.
A: I personally evacuated new orleans. I know lots of people who stayed though and here's one of their number one reasons why: Even after the storm is over, the government doesn't open the city back up right away- they want to clean away debris, renew resources and make sure everything is safe. Its really tough being 'locked out' of your house for days at a time, though, especially after the threat of danger is over. So many people chose to wait out the storm at home. Also hurricanes have "cried wolf" so many times that people start to get a false sense of security and believe nothing really bad will happen (especially people who faired well in katrina... they think if they could get through that, they can get through anything) Sucky situation, though
