Q: How old do you have to be in NYC to get a part time job? Can it be in like a supermarket? Do I need some kind of papers? If so how do I get them? What is the most hours you can work as a 14 year old?(Im 14) I live in N.Y.C so I can't do typical kid jobs like lawnmowing. Can I work in places like in a supermarket?
A: Even when allowed by law, a lot of companies don't hire 14 year olds. So you may have difficulty finding work. Being a caddy at a golf course is a job that's usually available to younger people. You probably need a work permit from your school. Go to the school's office and ask how to obtain one. They should also be able to answer your other questions. Ask them if your school has a work study program or if they know which employers are willing to hire 14 year olds. You can also try to hire yourself out for things like lawn mowing and landscaping, baby sitting, dog walking, and pet care. Good luck.
