Q:
A: It depends on the kind of benefits. Companies that have child care onsite as a benefit usually offer that immediately. Hospitals are a good place to look for that kind of job (and remember, hospitals hire more than just doctors and nurses. They have secretaries, electricians, accountants, you name it.) But if you are looking for health care benefits, that's a different story. Very few companies will offer health care to summer or temporary employees, for obvious reasons. If you need an operation, say, it might cost the company's insurance plan thousands of dollars, or tens of thousands of dollars. It's worth it to give that benefit to an employee who will be with the company for a long time, but it's just too expensive for someone who will be gone in two months. I wish I had a better answer for you, and if you are looking for something other than health insurance, there is hope. But otherwise, this is the reality you are facing. I wish you well.
