Q: In my neighborhood, each house has drive up mail boxes, and I park my vehicle out on the street in front of my house. Well, I recently received a notice from my post office that they would stop mail delivery if I continued to park in from of my house. Can they do that?
A: Yes they can. A carrier is not permitted to hop out of a vehicle to deliver mail. It has everything to do with safety. The rule is a carrier to supposed to be able to pull up to and away from a box without backing. Children will some times run to the box to get the mail. If a carrier has to back up, a child may be there. Also parking in front of your neighbors house may keep them from getting their mail also. Just try to not park in front of your box during the time frame your carrier may be there.
