I lost my drivers license, Can I use my passport as a form of ID when I write a check for groceries.?

Q: yes, I write checks because my purse has disappeared (that is how I lost the drivers license). No debit card or credit card. I called Ralphs a little bit ago and they told me they wont accept passports as ID for buying groceries. They said I need a state ID. Oh well.

A: So Sorry about your loss.....what a hassle getting your id, credit cards, debit cards, and anything else you lost replaced. BUT.....in answer to your question...it will depend on the retailer. Each retailer will be different. Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons Cashiers are all very experienced in ID recognition and they do not accept the passport as a valid form of id ONLY....in conjuntion with Driver License (if needed), but not by itself. Other retailers may accept it, but you will need to check with each individual retailer. You may just need to carry cash (go to the bank) for awhile until you get your new cards. Good Luck....hope all goes well
