Q: Is there a Japanese food store near downtown San Diego or near Fashion Valley?
A: I don't know if you mean market or restaurant, so I'll just give you both. There's a Japanese restaurant in Horton Plaza in the food court. They have Sushi and Teriyaki, and soup. There's another one on market street, but I haven't eaten there yet. Also, there's a sushi restaurant in Fashion Valley Mall, but sushi and tempura are the only things they serve. If you want more variety in Japanese food, try going up north to Clairmont. There's a Japanese community around there. The best japanese resturant I've ever eaten at is in Chula Vista called Kampai. It's by 3rd ave, and it's the only Japanese place I know that serves actual ramen. If you want a Japanese or Oriental market, try 99 Ranch on S Clairmont road. Their main specalities are live fish, japanese bakery, and many other things that you will not find in a regular market. They seem to be a little pricey though. They have various mini-stores to one side of the building that sells glasses, japanese bookstore, chinese resurants, jewlery, and a little shop that sells various child things [like hello kitty or pucca]. There are also a chain of markets called Seafood City, that is much more cheaper than 99 ranch, with some locations in national city and chula vista [This branch is also near 3rd Ave. ] They are more Filipino-based, but have standard oriental things.
