Q: ok i live in San Diego, am a college student and am looking to buy a membership at my local 24 hr fitness for 3 months over the summer. Does anyone know of any tricks or little known deals that I can present or ask for when I go? I'm gonna call them up, but am interested in hearing anyone else's tips. thanks
A: I got a sweet deal from 24 Hour Fitness back when they were called Family Fitness. I was a member of a competing gym, was dissatisfied with my membership and went to Family Fitness to find a better deal. They waived the initiation fee, set me up on a traveler's program where I can use any 24 hour fitness club in the world and even discounted the monthly fee. I'm still only paying $16/month, and I've been a member with them for over 15 years. You can't negotiate a deal like that with their Web site. The trick is to work with one of their sales reps and play them against another gym. Tell them that you're considering other gyms, and will go with te best deal you will get. Make sure you walk out or at least act like you are so you can get them to negotiate on your terms. Remember - they work on commission.
