Q: I'm trying to make a decision on a health care provider that is beneficial for my son and I need your help! I have the options of choosing between Molina or Group Health. My son is 3 weeks, 1 day old and has a heart murmur. He has been diagnosed with a VSD, ventriculat septal defect, which is basically a hole in his heart. Normally children who are born with holes in their hearts, the holes will close up on its own after some time. In his case, the hole is at a position where it will not resolve on its own therefore he will need more interventions such as surgery. Scary isn't it? I'm a new mother, this is my first little baby. As a parent, it's a total nightmare dealing with your child's health conditions whether if he/she is diagnosed with a hole in their heart or even if they are very ill with an ear infection. Either way, you lose sleep wishing they will get better. So given the heart condition, there's not much I can do because it's all in the hands of the doctors. I just want to know that he'll be in good hands... Can someone please point me towards that direction?
A: In the first 10 years that I worked in Seattle, (because of changing/dropping policies at my employer) I had 6 different insurances. So, I have been on a lot of different plans and I can say that I really like being on Group Health and would highly recommend it. You have my sympathy about your son, I understand. My daughter, our first (now 8yrs. old) was born at Swedish and was diagnosed with VSD. It is very scary and upsetting. We went over to Children's hospital an saw old doctor Stanley Stamm MD - he is the top pediatric cardiologist in Seattle. Have you been to him? if not demand to have an appointment with him at Children's My daughters VSD took many months (6-7) to close up - you have my prayers.
